Twin Disc Cutter

Twin Disc Cutter (also known as Double Disc Center Cutter, Center Twin Cutter Assembly) is a combined disc cutter system installed in the central area of a TBM cutterhead. It is mainly responsible for excavating the rock at the center of the tunnel face. It consists of two independent disc cutter hubs and cutter rings. Through the cooperative action of the two cutters, it expands the cutting coverage in the center area and improves the efficiency of rock fragmentation.

Due to the small rotational radius and unique cutting conditions in the central area of the cutterhead, the twin cutter configuration helps improve the continuity of rock breaking, optimize load distribution, and enhance the overall cutting performance of the TBM.

Twin Disc Cutterr FAQs

Q: What cutter diameters are available for Litian twin disc cutters?
A: Litian twin disc cutters are available in various diameters, including 12-inch,14-inch, 15-inch, 15.5-inch, 17-inch, 17.5-inch, 18-inch, and 19-inch configurations. The suitable cutter size is selected based on TBM cutterhead design, rock conditions, and excavation requirements.

Q: What are the advantages of using a twin disc cutter compared with a single disc center cutter?

A: Compared with a conventional single center cutter, a twin disc cutter provides wider cutting coverage and better rock-breaking performance in the TBM center area.

Its main advantages include:

  • Enhanced center-area excavation efficiency by using two disc cutters working simultaneously;

  • Improved rock fragmentation continuity and reduced uncut rock in the cutterhead center zone;

  • Better load distribution between two cutter bodies, helping improve cutter reliability;

  • Suitable for hard rock TBM applications where high cutting forces and continuous excavation are required.

The twin disc cutter is widely used in large-diameter TBMs and hard rock tunneling projects.

Q: What TBM applications are suitable for twin disc cutters?

A: Twin Disc Cutters are mainly used in hard rock TBMs and shield machines equipped with disc cutters.

Typical applications include:

  • Hydropower tunnel projects;

  • Long-distance water diversion tunnels;

  • Railway and highway tunnel construction;

  • Underground mining tunnels;

  • Large-diameter TBM excavation projects.

They are especially suitable for challenging geological conditions such as granite, basalt, quartz sandstone, and other high-strength abrasive rocks.

Litian provides high-performance TBM disc cutters and Twin Disc Cutters designed for reliable operation under demanding underground excavation conditions.

Q: Why choose Litian Double Disc Center Cutters for TBM and shield machine applications?

A: Litian specializes in the design and manufacturing of TBM disc cutters, Center Twin Cutter Assemblies, and rock excavation tools for global tunneling projects.

Our Twin Disc Cutters feature:

  • High-quality alloy steel cutter bodies for excellent strength and durability;

  • Advanced heat-treated cutter rings with high wear resistance;

  • Reliable bearing and sealing systems for long service life under heavy loads;

  • Strict quality control and inspection procedures to ensure consistent performance.

With extensive experience in TBM cutting tools, Litian provides reliable cutter solutions for hard rock tunneling, underground construction, and large-scale infrastructure projects worldwide.

Q: Which TBM brands are your twin disc cutters compatible with?
A: Litian twin disc cutters are designed to be compatible with major TBM manufacturers, including CRCHI, CREG, Herrenknecht, Robbins, and Wirth. We offer customized configurations to match specific cutterhead mounting interfaces.
