Introduction And Development Process Of Rock Drill Shank Adapter

Whether it is the mining of various mineral resources, the construction of energy transportation such as railways, highways, water conservancy, and hydropower, or the departments of geology and construction, drilling and blasting operations are inseparable from the use of rock drilling tools.


1. Understanding of rock drilling tools and shank adapters


Rock drilling tools are indispensable tools in rock drilling and blasting. It is a kind of tool for drilling rocks, made of rock drill steel and other materials (such as cemented carbide). It mainly includes four major components, namely the drill rod, drill bit, coupling sleeve and shank adapters.


The heat treatment equipment for rock drilling tools is a controlled atmosphere box-type multi-purpose furnace. The multi-purpose furnace only has a front room and a back room. The front room is a preheating zone, and the back room is mainly used for heating and carburizing. The adjustment of the temperature in the furnace still needs manual control, because some performances of the multi-purpose furnace (such as the actual temperature in the furnace and the uniformity of temperature) are still somewhat unstable. Normally, only the shank adapters and the coupling sleeves are processed by heat treatment equipment. In actual work, the damage to the coupling sleeves is very small, and the amount generally required is very small, so the heat treatment are mainly for shank adapters. The shank adapter is one of the main consumption tools of the whole rock drilling equipment, and there are many types of it.


2. The development process of rock drill shank adapters


As a modern matching rock drilling tool for drilling machines, the shank adapter for drill is produced with the development of rock drilling technology and rock drilling conditions. In terms of rock drilling technology, when drilling from shallow holes to medium and deep holes, due to the limitation of the working section, if a deeper rock hole is to be obtained, a connecting sleeve must be used to continuously connect multiple drill rods on the same axis of the drill rod. The shank end rod used in this rock drilling process is the embryonic form of the development of the shank adapters.


In terms of rock drilling conditions, with the rapid development of high-frequency, high-power full-hydraulic rock drilling equipment, the drill rod in the supporting drill tools is used to transmit the high-frequency, high-energy impact energy given by the rock drill, resulting in the cooperation between the rock drill and the drill rod. The geometric structure of the parts is more complex, and the technical requirements for connection and coordination are becoming more and more stringent. Obviously, the change in rock drilling technology and conditions has increased the requirements for the cooperation and manufacturing technology of the shank end rod. Therefore, the shank adapters of various structures of full mechanical processing, and high-precision moulding has just been produced correspondingly. In the end, it developed into an indispensable and important accessory in the supporting tools of modern rock drilling machines.
